Jack Bauer voice over: Right now, terrorists are plotting to assassinate a presidential candidate. My wife and daughter have been targeted. And people that I work with may be involved in both. I'm Federal Agent Jack Bauer, and today is the longest day of my life.
------------------------
Previously on 24:
Kim Bauer: Rick, it's me. The safe house has been attacked. The agents that were looking after us are dead, and my mother is gone.
Rick: What?
Kim Bauer: Listen to me, I'm coming to your place.
------------------------
Tanya: I never met anyone that has amnesia before.
Henry Martin: Mrs. Bauer?
Teri Bauer: You know me?
Henry Martin: Of course. Will Dr. Parslow be joining you?
Phil Parslow: You don't remember me?
Teri Bauer: Are you my doctor?
Phil Parslow: We're gonna figure out what this is all about.
------------------------
Carl Webb: There is some physical evidence in George Ferragamo's office that leads directly to you.
Keith Palmer: So I'll be framed for Ferragamo's murder?
------------------------
Alexis Drazen: It's me. Palmer is staying in Los Angeles after all.
Andre Drazen: The Nash girl called you?
Alexis Drazen: Yes. I'm on my way to the hotel now.
------------------------
Jack Bauer: We will keep it simple. We want you to plant a tracking device on him. SWAT team stand down. Clear the floor. Alexis is in the room. What's that in her hand? Oh, my God, she's got a knife!
Elizabeth Nash: Son of a bitch!
Nina Myers: SWAT team, hit the room now!
Jack Bauer: Nina! We cannot let him die!
Nina Myers: It's Alexis's phone. What do we do?
Jack Bauer: We gotta take a chance.
Morgan: Do you have the money?
Jack Bauer: Yeah.
Morgan: OK. We'll meet in 45 minutes.
------------------------
The following takes place between 5:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. on the day of the California Presidential Primary.
[Knowing that Alexis Drazen was going to make a payoff to the intercepted caller, Jack has his CTU agents search the room for money.]
Jack Bauer: Listen up, people. Listen up! Alexis Drazen was leaving here for a meeting. At this meeting he was gonna make a payoff, which means somewhere in this room there is money. I want it found, I want it found now.
David Palmer: Elizabeth can't be held responsible for this.
Jack Bauer: Senator, I don't disagree with you. But unfortunately we have a video tape of her plunging a letter opener into a man's stomach.
David Palmer: You got her into this.
Jack Bauer: No, sir, I did not. I did not ask her to stab Alexis Drazen. I misjudged her ability to handle the stress of this operation, and as I said before, sir, I will do everything I can to help her.
David Palmer: I know you're just trying to protect me.
Jack Bauer: Senator, I understand the situation that you're in. But I do not need to remind you that there are at least two suspects at large. Sir, please, I implore you. Have as much security around you as you can tolerate, and let us do our job.
David Palmer: Keep me posted.
Jack Bauer: Yes, sir. I promise I will.
Nina Myers: They need to bag all this as evidence. OK. All this needs to be included.
Agent: 15 minutes, team. Gotta be ready to go.
Agent: Bingo.
Nina Myers: Found it!
Jack Bauer: What?
Nina Myers: Bearer bonds.
Jack Bauer: As good as cash and easier to move. You got the address of the restaurant yet?
Nina Myers: California Plaza. It's about 20 minutes from here.
Jack Bauer: Good.
Nina Myers: How are you gonna pull this off, Jack? Pretending to be Alexis?
Jack Bauer: I don't know yet. Hey, Jake. Jake, come here. Give me your shirt.
Nina Myers: I'm going with you. Coordinate your backup.
Jack Bauer: Fine.
------------------------
George Mason: What's the update on Bauer's wife and daughter?
Tony Almeida: Still missing.
George Mason: Anything back from forensics yet?
Tony Almeida: Well, based on preliminary reports, it looks like the agents were killed protecting the women.
George Mason: One way or another we have to find the wife and daughter. I alerted a task force over at District. I want you to call over there and see if they need anything else from our end, all right?
Tony Almeida: All right.
George Mason: Tony? Still no word to Jack on any of this, understand?
Tony Almeida: What do you want me to tell him if he calls and asks?
George Mason: Tell him you're working on something else and put him through to me, all right?
------------------------
[Kim and Rick search Dan's room for information that could help her find Teri.]
Melanie: What are you guys looking for anyway?
Kim Bauer: Whoever Dan was working for might have information about my mom.
Rick: This guy who was in charge - Gaines? I'd never met him before. Dan knew him. Maybe his number's here.
Melanie: What are you gonna do? Call him and ask for your mom back?
Kim Bauer: Any information I find, I'm gonna give it to the police.
Melanie: You hear that, Rick? She's gonna call the police. Is that OK with you?
Rick: I thought you said you didn't trust the police.
Kim Bauer: Whatever. I'll give it to my dad.
Melanie: Dan'll go ballistic when he finds out you guys have been going through his stuff.
Kim Bauer: You didn't tell her Dan's dead?
Rick: Not yet. I don't wanna freak her out. Besides, Dan's brother Frank is on his way here and I don't want him to know. Don't say anything, OK?
Kim Bauer: OK. This is such a waste of time. We're never gonna find anything. I don't even know why I came.
------------------------
[Dr. Phil Parslow fills Teri in on the details of her life that she can't remember.]
Phil Parslow: You're married. You have a daughter named Kimberly.
Teri Bauer: I have a daughter?
Phil Parslow: Yes. A teenage daughter. You and Jack, you were separated about six months ago. That's when we met.
Teri Bauer: Who are you?
Phil Parslow: I'm a friend. A very good friend… who wanted to be a lot more.
Teri Bauer: But…
Phil Parslow: You were afraid to start a relationship, so we didn't. Then you decided to go back with your husband. Maybe it was because of Kimberly. I don't know. But you asked me not to call, and I haven't.
Teri Bauer: I… I don't remember any of this.
Phil Parslow: We need to get you to a hospital, have you looked at.
Teri Bauer: Why do we have to go anywhere? You said you were a doctor.
Phil Parslow: I'm a surgeon. You need to see a neurologist. You've suffered some kind of trauma.
Teri Bauer: I don't wanna go to a hospital.
Phil Parslow: Why not?
Teri Bauer: I don't know. I just don't want to. Phil Parslow: What if I examined you here?
Teri Bauer: OK.
------------------------
[Palmer plays the Carl confession tape for Sherry and Mike Novick.]
Carl Webb: There is some physical evidence in George Ferragamo's office that leads directly to you. Subtle enough so the fire marshals didn't find it the first time around. But with a little help, they'll find it.
Keith Palmer: So l'll be framed for Ferragamo's murder?
Carl Webb: Like I said, whatever it takes.
Mike Novick: I don't know what you think you’ve got here, David.
David Palmer: What we've got is a tape of Carl Webb admitting that he set my son up for murder.
Mike Novick: It might have been a while since I've practiced law, but I know that unless Keith was sanctioned by a court order and prepped by an authority, this is not evidence.
David Palmer: But I've been in politics long enough to know that if the media gets a hold of this tape, the truth will come out.
Sherry Palmer: No. Today can't be about two things, David. It's either about winning the primary, securing the party nomination, or it's about a political scandal, but it can't be about both. Destroy the tape.
David Palmer: What?
Sherry Palmer: If you don't, not only will you bring down yourself, but you'll bring the entire party down with you.
David Palmer: And how do I do that?
Sherry Palmer: Because you're gonna win today. You'll have enough delegates by eight o'clock. You are the Democratic Party's candidate for president, whether you like it or not. And if you decide to self-destruct, it will take years for the party's platform to recover.
David Palmer: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Why don't we let the electorate decide on that? And I don't consider telling the truth self-destructive. And how bad will it be for the Democrats if somebody else comes out with this first and I have to go on the defensive?
Sherry Palmer: What do you think, Mike?
Mike Novick: I've seen much uglier stories kept under wraps. The only people who know about this tape are the people in this room and Keith. This would not be a difficult item to shelve. And besides, this is currency. Once you get into the White House, this could protect you.
David Palmer: How?
Mike Novick: Well, think about it. You'll have evidence against some of the most powerful men in the country. They won't be able to control you, David.
------------------------
[Jack calls Tony.]
Jack Bauer: Tony, it's Jack. How’s everything going over there?
Tony Almeida: Fine.
Jack Bauer: I need to speak to Mason. He's not in his office.
Tony Almeida: Yeah, he's down here on the floor. Let me transfer you.
Jack Bauer: OK. Wait. Before you do, have you spoken to Teri yet?
Tony Almeida: No, I haven’t.
Jack Bauer: Why don’t you give me the number of the safe house. I'll call over there myself.
Tony Almeida: Look, let me see if I can get that for you. Hang on a second.
[Tony goes over to Mason.]
George Mason: What's up?
Tony Almeida: Jack's on the phone. He wants to talk to you.
George Mason: OK.
Tony Almeida: Also, he wants the number to the safe house.
George Mason: Of course he does.
Tony Almeida: Look… Why don’t you just tell him what happened?
George Mason: Why is this so difficult for you to comprehend, Tony? The man is neck-deep in an investigation. He has a job to do. Let's let him do it. We get him back to a controlled environment, we can tell him the truth. Meanwhile, we have a job to do.
Tony Almeida: I gotta say, I just think it's wrong.
George Mason: It’s not about right and wrong. It's about the fact that we have a priority to protect Palmer.
Tony Almeida: He's on line two.
George Mason: Jack, it's me. Where are you?
Jack Bauer: We're on our way to a meet.
George Mason: What kind of meet?
Jack Bauer: Alexis was supposed to make a payoff.
George Mason: A payoff to who?
Jack Bauer: I'm not sure yet.
George Mason: So what are you gonna do?
Jack Bauer: Pretend to be Alexis.
George Mason: Oh, Jack, you're never gonna pull that off.
Jack Bauer: Alexis was supposed to pay this guy 50,000 dollars in bearer bonds. George, you're gonna have to work with me on this. I need backup. Milo's got the address. We should be there in about 15 minutes. George, you keep this guy in play, we got a chance of bringing these guys down. Otherwise you can wait for Alexis to come to, if he comes to. By then this whole thing could be over.
George Mason: All right. I'll go along. I'll send you a team.
Jack Bauer: Thank you. Can you pass me back to Tony? He was gonna give me the number for the safe house.
George Mason: Yeah. I just spoke to Paulson over there. He said the girls were sleeping.
Jack Bauer: OK. Um, get them to call me back on my cell when they wake up.
George Mason: Definitely.
Jack Bauer: Thank you.
[Jack hangs up.]
Jack Bauer: Mason's on board.
Nina Myers: Oh, that's good.
------------------------
[Jack and Nina are in a car on the way to California Plaza.]
Jack Bauer: So what else did Teri say?
Nina Myers: She didn't say much. Once she guessed that you'd been seeing me, she didn't wanna talk to me. Not that I blame her. But I couldn't finish the debrief, so I left and let Paulson do it. Maybe that was a mistake.
Jack Bauer: No. You did the right thing. This is my fault. I should have told her.
Nina Myers: Sounds like she didn't wanna talk about it.
Jack Bauer: It doesn't matter. I still should have told her.
Nina Myers: Jack, from what I could see, she really loves you and wants to work it out. Maybe you wanna call her now and see how she’s doing?
Jack Bauer: I tried. Mason said they were sleeping. You know, why don't you call Paulson and see if they're up yet?
[Nina calls the safe house.]
Nina Myers: It's not going through.
Jack Bauer: It might be the area. Try again when we get to the plaza. Look, I'm really sorry about all this.
Nina Myers: Yeah, me too.
------------------------
George Mason: Hanlin? No. Come on, guys. Do what you can. At least try to find somebody else, huh? Yeah.
[Tony comes up to Mason’s office.]
George Mason: Yeah?
Tony Almeida: I need some extra bodies to help track Teri and Kim Bauer.
George Mason: I don't know, Tony. I don't see anyone doing crossword puzzles down there.
Tony Almeida: Look, uh, my hands are a little tied without Nina here, all right?
George Mason: ‘Cause Nina's with Jack, right?
Tony Almeida: Yeah.
George Mason: She says it's over between them. What do you think?
Tony Almeida: What?
George Mason: No, I'm just asking. You gotta be wondering yourself, right?
[Tony starts to leave.]
George Mason: Hey, Almeida. I'm on your side. Nina ought to be here right now. What does Jack need her for? You’re busting your ass without any resources because she felt like taking a ride with him. If that works for you, great.
Tony Almeida: You know what works for me? You keeping out of my personal business. That works for me, OK?
George Mason: You know what? There's entirely too much personal business going on around here. I wanna get this place back on track. It seems to me Nina Myers is a big part of the problem.
Tony Almeida: How do you figure that?
George Mason: She covers for everyone that doesn't follow code. And everyone that doesn’t follow code covers for her. She's with Jack. She's with you. You don't think that's relevant? You don't think that's a distraction?
Tony Almeida: No, I don't.
George Mason: No, you don't. Well, I do.
------------------------
Keith Palmer: Patty said you wanted to talk to me, Dad.
David Palmer: Yeah. Sit down. Close the door.
Keith Palmer: What's up?
David Palmer: Before I make my decision about giving this tape to the DA, I wanted to talk to you.
Keith Palmer: OK.
David Palmer: I wanted you to understand what you're up against.
Keith Palmer: I understand, Dad. I'm ready to go.
David Palmer: No, no, no. Listen to me. We're going to the press with a story about some bad men committing murder and trying to frame you. But these men are going to shift the attention to you and your involvement with Lyle Gibson's death. Ultimately, they're gonna make this about you. On television, in the press, everywhere you go. You're gonna be accused of a crime you did not commit. Can you live through that?
Keith Palmer: Yes, I can.
David Palmer: Don't just say it. Think about it.
Keith Palmer: Dad… What do you think I've been living through? Not just today, but for years? I made a mistake. I was wrong to go to Mom and Carl. I should have come forward right away. Taken my hits right then and there. But I was scared.
David Palmer: That's what you learn. It's OK to be scared.
Keith Palmer: What I said last night… about you not being there. It's not true. It's what I told myself so I can blame you for my screw-up.
David Palmer: It doesn't matter why you said it. The fact is, there's some truth to it. I haven't always been there. But I'm here now.
------------------------
[Andre Drazen calls Jovan Myovic.]
Andre Drazen: Jovan?
Jovan Myovic: Yes, Andre?
Andre Drazen: I can't find Alexis. Have you heard from him?
Jovan Myovic: No.
Andre Drazen: He's meeting Morgan in 20 minutes. I need to talk to him.
Jovan Myovic: Look, I don't know, Andre. I've got my own situation to deal with.
Andre Drazen: Still no sign of the women?
Jovan Myovic: I'll find them.
Andre Drazen: You checked the hospitals?
Jovan Myovic: I checked everywhere. I don't need you looking over my shoulder! I'll find them and kill them. Don't worry about it.
Andre Drazen: Calm down, Jovan, and don't tell me not to worry. Just tell me how you plan to find them.
Jovan Myovic: I'm going to the Bauer house. Eventually, someone will show.
------------------------
[Kim calls everyone she can think of, but no one has heard from Teri.]
Kim Bauer: My aunt Ethel isn't there.
Rick: Is there anyone else?
Kim Bauer: I've tried everyone I can think of. No one's heard from my mom.
Melanie: Rick. We got things to do. She's gotta go.
Rick: What kind of things?
Melanie: You'll find out when Frank gets here.
Rick: What's that supposed to mean? Look, Kim's in trouble. I gotta help her.
Melanie: Yeah, and we'll be in trouble too. Look, she has to leave.
Kim Bauer: OK. That's fine.
[Kim starts to leave.]
Rick: Kim, wait. Wait. Hey, look. I just need to talk to her for a second, then she'll go. Where are you gonna go?
Kim Bauer: I don’t know. There's a park my mom and dad said to go in case of an emergency, like an earthquake. Maybe she's there.
Rick: Why don't you just go to your house?
Kim Bauer: No. The people that are after us probably know where I live. If she's safe, she's not gonna go there.
Rick: Right. So this park, how are you gonna get there?
Kim Bauer: I don't know. Um… Can I borrow your car?
Rick: It's not mine, it's Melanie's. Wait a minute. Here. Take this (Gives her money). You can usually catch a cab on Fourth. It's a couple of blocks this way.
Kim Bauer: Are you sure you can't come with me?
Rick: After last night, I gotta lay low. They're gonna be looking for me.
Kim Bauer: I still think you should turn yourself in. It's not that bad. You helped us escape.
Rick: I'm on probation. They catch me, I'm going to prison. It doesn't matter what you or your folks say.
Kim Bauer: I wish we would have met before this.
Rick: So do I.
Kim Bauer: Are you gonna be OK?
Rick: Yeah.
Kim Bauer: I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for you.
Rick: You wouldn't be in trouble if it wasn't for me.
Kim Bauer: That's not true. Dan would have found someone else.
[Rick and Kim kiss. Suddenly, Frank enters.]
Frank: Hey, Rick.
Rick: Hey.
Frank: So, how'd it go last night?
Rick: It went fine.
Frank: Yeah? You don't look fine. What happened to you?
Rick: Nothing. I'm OK.
Frank: Hey, Dan! Dan!
Rick: Go. Just get out of here. Grab a cab on Fourth.
Kim Bauer: I know.
Frank: Where's my brother?
Rick: He's out.
Frank: Out where?
Rick: We got separated.
Frank: Uh-huh. So where's the money?
Rick: He's got it.
Frank: Uh-huh.
Kim Bauer: I’m sorry. I should get going.
Frank: Where are you going?
Kim Bauer: What do you mean?
Frank: I don't know you.
Kim Bauer: My name's Kim.
Frank: Hi, Kim. How do you know Rick?
Rick: She's a friend of mine from San Diego. She's gotta get back home.
Frank: She's not going anywhere.
Rick: What's that supposed to mean?
Frank: My brother's not here, and my money’s not here, and I don't know her.
Rick: Look, I told you, she's a friend of mine.
Frank: Yeah, I understand, but I got business going down here in half an hour. Until Dan gets back with the money, nobody leaves.
------------------------
[Jack and Nina set up security for the meeting.]
Nina Myers: OK, the teams will be in hidden positions here, here, here and here.
Jack Bauer: What about communications?
Nina Myers: I’ll be on the same channel as everyone else.
Jack Bauer: Exits?
Nina Myers: They'll be covered by the teams, but I'll double up with one here at the widest exit.
[Jack’s cell phone rings.]
Jack Bauer: OK, good.
[Jack answers the phone.]
Jack Bauer: Yeah?
George Mason: Jack, you’re all set up?
Jack Bauer: Yeah. The team's in place?
George Mason: Yeah. That's what I wanted to call you about. Uh… Teddy Hanlin's running backup.
Jack Bauer: What?
George Mason: Hang on, don't freak out. I'm sure it'll be fine. Just avoid a confrontation.
Jack Bauer: Dammit. George, how could you let this happen?
George Mason: Look, Jack, I'm sorry. I just found out about it. Division made the assignment.
Jack Bauer: I understand. Fine, I'll deal with it. I don't believe this.
Nina Myers: What?
Jack Bauer: Teddy Hanlin's in charge of backup.
Nina Myers: Seth Campbell's old partner?
Jack Bauer: Yeah.
[Jack dials his cell phone.]
Nina Myers: Great. Who are you calling?
Jack Bauer: The safe house. I wanna make sure Teri and Kim are all right before this gets started. No one's picking up. Are you sure this is the right number?
Nina Myers: It's the number that Paulson gave me.
Jack Bauer: Why can't I get through?
Nina Myers: Jack.
Teddy Hanlin: Hey, Jack. Haven't seen you since you put my partner away.
Nina Myers: Teddy, don't start.
Jack Bauer: Teddy, is your team in place?
Teddy Hanlin: Yeah. We're not up here shopping for Dockers. I heard you really screwed up today. I guess some people have connections and don't get spanked when they break the law, huh?
Jack Bauer: The guy we're looking for is wearing a red cap. That's all we know about him. I'm gonna stay visible, hopefully draw him to me. No one makes a move until I give the word. Is that clear?
Teddy Hanlin: It's your show. Just make sure you stay put when you do. I always get a little bit nervous about target confusion, and I'd hate to see one of the good guys go down by mistake.
Nina Myers: Teddy. Let's get started, OK?
Jack Bauer: Hey. I don't want a problem on this.
------------------------
Tony Almeida: Hey. I got a call from the Rampart Division. They got a report that a woman matching Teri Bauer's description was seen wandering around Griffith Park. You know, it's not far from the safe house.
George Mason: Where is she?
Tony Almeida: She disappeared.
George Mason: All right. I'll get on the satellite uplink. Why don’t you get someone posted over at the Bauer house?
Tony Almeida: I already did. Williams should be there in a couple of minutes.
George Mason: Good work.
------------------------
[Dr. Parslow examines Teri at the restaurant.]
Phil Parslow: I don't like what I'm seeing. Looks like you've been roughed up by someone.
Teri Bauer: Do you think maybe that I hit my head, that that's why I can't remember?
Phil Parslow: That's just it. There's no evidence of a head injury. Except for your memory loss, you're coherent. Beside the bruises, do you have any pain?
Teri Bauer: Yeah. Something's been bothering me, sort of here. Oh, my God. What… What do you think happened to me?
Phil Parslow: I don't know. But I… I think you have a condition. It's called Dissociative Amnesia, and it can happen to someone when they suffer an intense emotional trauma. We need to get you to a hospital so they can figure out what's going on.
Teri Bauer: No, I… I don't wanna do that. I… I can't explain it, but for some reason I just… I don't wanna go to a hospital. I just have this gut feeling that it would be dangerous.
Phil Parslow: How could it be dangerous? I'd be with you. I'd be by your side the entire time. Come on. It'll be fine.
Teri Bauer: No. I don't wanna go.
Phil Parslow: Teri. Teri, we can't stay here. You need to get checked out. Neural damage, it can become permanent if it's not treated right away.
Teri Bauer: No, I don't wanna go.
Phil Parslow: Come on.
Teri Bauer: I don't wanna go. I don't wanna go to the hospital. Please don't make me go. I just don’t… I can't do it. I'm sorry, but I can't do that. I don't wanna go to the hospital.
Phil Parslow: OK.
Teri Bauer: I can't go.
Phil Parslow: OK.
[Phil hugs Teri.]
Teri Bauer: Please, Phil. Just take me home.
Phil Parslow: OK. It's OK. It's all right.
------------------------
Sherry Palmer (over the phone): Right. I heard. No. No, we did much better in New York than we thought. Oh, yeah, definitely.
David Palmer: Put this in my safe now.
[Sherry watches as Palmer gives a manila envelope to campaign manager Patty Brooks. Patty locks the envelope into the safe.]
Sherry Palmer (over the phone): Oh, yeah. That'll make him very happy. Oh, I think so too. Oh, DNC, they'll really milk it. Uh-huh. Yeah. Well, I… I'm not sure, but… Well, that's good, though. No, I spoke to Chris. I told him we'd be in Baltimore if we won New York. Mm-hm. Right. Mm-hm. Yeah. Jerry? Jerry, listen. I gotta run. We'll touch base in a couple of hours, OK? Well, how are Beth and the girls? That's terrific. All righty. Bye-bye.
[Sherry hangs up.]
Sherry Palmer: Uh, Patty. Do you know where David went?
Patty Brooks: Just down to the conference room. He and Mike are meeting the publicist for tonight.
Sherry Palmer: Did he say how long he'd be?
Patty Brooks: Um… he didn't say. Shouldn't be about more than 15, 20 minutes.
Sherry Palmer: OK. Hm. Hey, did you hear about New York?
Patty Brooks: Oh, yeah. Isn't it great?
[Patty leaves. Sherry goes into Palmer’s room and closes the door behind her. She discreetly opens up the safe and sees that the envelope addressed to the District Attorney contains Keith's secret tape. Patty Brooks comes in looking for her.]
Patty Brooks: Oh. There you are. Jerry's on the line. He said…
Sherry Palmer: I'm busy.
Patty Brooks: He said he just wanted to…
Sherry Palmer: Well, I'm busy, Patty. Tell him I'll call him back.
Patty Brooks: OK.
[Patty leaves the room. Sherry destroys the tape.]
------------------------
Frank: Oh, come on, Dan.
------------------------
[Palmer comes inside the room.]
David Palmer: Where's Keith?
Sherry Palmer: I don't know. I heard, uh, you two had a talk.
David Palmer: Yes, we did. You should talk to him too.
Sherry Palmer: Really? About what?
David Palmer: Well, we're putting him in a tough place. He's gonna need both our support.
Sherry Palmer: No, David. You're the one who's put him in a tough place. And as for needing us, our… our baby left the nest a long time ago. I don't think he cares to hear what I have to say.
David Palmer: That's ridiculous. Speak to him, Sherry.
[Palmer opens the safe. He can’t find the envelope containing the tape. He looks at Sherry.]
Sherry Palmer: I destroyed it.
David Palmer: You destroyed the tape?
Sherry Palmer: Mm-hm. And I know you're gonna be angry, but it had to be done. You have blinders on. You're not seeing this thing very clearly. It's for the best.
David Palmer: It breaks my heart that I was right.
Sherry Palmer: Right about what, David?
[Palmer pulls out a tape from his shirt pocket.]
David Palmer: That wasn't the real tape, Sherry. I've learned that I don't know you as well as I thought l did. I had to see just how far you were willing to go.
Sherry Palmer: I will do anything to protect my family, David. Anything. Does that make me a bad person?
[Palmer leaves the room.]
David Palmer: I want you to set up a press conference.
Mike Novick: When?
David Palmer: Now.
Mike Novick: We've got one coming up in less than three hours.
David Palmer: I want this one within the hour.
Mike Novick: Where?
David Palmer: Downstairs. I don't want anyone or anything to interfere with what I have to say.
------------------------
[Jack and Nina set up their agents around California Plaza to guard him.]
Jack Bauer: Nina, I'm on channel one. Do you copy?
Nina Myers: Yeah, I hear you, Jack. The signal's good.
Jack Bauer: Where are you posted?
Nina Myers: Just under the east entrance, right under the bridge.
Jack Bauer: Good. How about you, Teddy?
Teddy Hanlin: My teams are in position.
Jack Bauer: OK. I got you.
Teddy Hanlin: You're blocking my view, Jack. Take a couple of steps back.
[Jack takes a couple of steps back.]
Jack Bauer: How's that?
Teddy Hanlin: There you go. Perfect shot.
[Teddy has Jack right on his target.]
Jack Bauer: OK.
[An old lady comes to seat at a table. Jack moves the chair for her.]
Jack Bauer: There you go, ma'am.
Old lady: Oh, thank you.
Jack Bauer: You’re welcome.
Teddy Hanlin: You're a very sensitive guy, Jack. I've never seen that side of you.
Nina Myers: Drop it, Teddy. We're working.
Teddy Hanlin: Jack can walk and chew gum at the same time, can't you, Jack?
Jack Bauer: What do you want, Teddy?
Teddy Hanlin: Nothing. It's just that we're both so busy. We never really get a chance to talk. Did you hear about Seth Campbell's wife, Judy?
Jack Bauer: No, what about her?
Teddy Hanlin: She hung herself. Yeah. It happened a couple of weeks ago. I guess you didn't get the memo, huh? It was a real tragedy. She didn't even bother leaving a note. I guess she thought it was kinda obvious. Trying to raise four kids with a husband in prison and no pension. ‘Cause why, Jack? You busted him for lining his pocket with a few extra dollars.
Jack Bauer: Look, Teddy, I'm sorry about Judy and I'm sorry about his kids, but this is not the time.
Teddy Hanlin: That's right. You're busy.
Nina Myers: Can this wait, Teddy?
Teddy Hanlin: Uh, of course. I just thought it'd be nice, you know, to catch up, while we're hanging.
Jack Bauer: Teddy, I understand why you're upset. If you want, as soon as this is over, I'll be more than happy to sit down and talk with you and tell my side of the story.
Teddy Hanlin: I'd really like to hear your side of the story, Jack. Tell you what, why don't we go to a Starbucks, get a couple of cappuccinos, and we can have a little chinwag?
[Nina calls Mason.]
George Mason: CTU, Mason.
Nina Myers: George, we have a problem.
George Mason: What’s that?
Nina Myers: Teddy's on the open channel hassling Jack. Meanwhile, he's got a rifle, and this place is crawling with people.
George Mason: Well, it's too late to swap him out. This thing’s going down any minute, right?
Nina Myers: We have to do something.
George Mason: What channel are you on?
Nina Myers: Channel one.
George Mason: All right. Hang on.
[Mason calls Tony.]
Tony Almeida: Yeah?
George Mason: Tony, you wanna conference me in on channel one?
Tony Almeida: Uh, sure.
[Tony patches Mason through to Jack, Nina and Teddy.]
George Mason: Hanlin, it's Mason. What the hell is the matter with you? You got a problem with Jack, bury it. You realize how many agents we’ve lost today? You're in an uncontained environment over there. We don’t know what we’re dealing with. So let's get on the same page now, huh?
Teddy Hanlin: Yes, sir.
George Mason: Jack, you’re OK?
Jack Bauer: Yeah.
George Mason: OK. Let's get back to work.
------------------------
[The phone rings.]
Frank: Hello? Yeah, man, it's cool. He'll be here.
------------------------
[As shooter Jovan Myovic waits outside the Bauer house, a CTU agent arrives to check out the grounds.]
Agent Williams: CTU, this is Williams. I've arrived at the Bauer house. I'm checking the perimeter.
------------------------
[Dr. Parslow drives Teri towards her home.]
Teri Bauer: Is this my neighborhood?
Phil Parslow: Not quite. We'll be there soon.
------------------------
[Frank speaks with someone over the phone.]
Frank: Rick says he and Dan got separated.
Man: But he’ll how, right?
Frank: No, he'll be here soon. He knows we need the cash by seven.
[Frank hangs up.]
Kim Bauer: What happens when Dan doesn't show up?
Rick: I don't know. I'm sure as hell not gonna tell him his brother's dead.
Kim Bauer: Why not? You didn't do it. He's gonna find out.
Rick: Not from me. What?
Kim Bauer: I don't understand.
Rick: Neither do I. Doing this deal is suicide.
Kim Bauer: I'm not talking about the deal. I'm talking about you.
Rick: What do you mean?
Kim Bauer: You have so much going for you, Rick. You're smart, you're good-looking, you're funny. How did you end up like this?
Rick: I'm doing all right.
Kim Bauer: All right? You're wanted by the police. You got shot in the arm. Your friends that you hang out with are criminals. Do you really wanna end up here?
Rick: I do the best I can. I didn't grow up like you did.
Kim Bauer: That's just an excuse. I have a friend named Todd. He went through two foster homes. He's got a scholarship to Stanford now.
Rick: Well, good for Todd. Why don’t you go to his house?
Kim Bauer: Because he can't help me find my mom.
Rick: Neither can I. Look, I know you're right. And if I get the chance, I'll try to turn myself around. But right now this thing is what it is, and we've gotta try to find a way to get through it.
Kim Bauer: Get through this? This is crazy. You can't let Frank make a drug deal without any money. We’re not gonna get through this. We're gonna get stuck in the middle of it. You have to talk to him, Rick.
Frank: Hey, stud. Think fast.
[Frank throws Rick a beer.]
Rick: Thanks. So, what deal?
Frank: We're gonna take the 20 grand you made last night and buy some ecstasy. What, Dan didn't tell you?
Rick: No.
Frank: I'm gonna flip it to these guys in Redondo. They'll pay 50 for it.
Kim Bauer: What happens if Dan doesn't show up?
Frank: Hey, if Dan says he'll be here, he'll be here.
------------------------
[At California Plaza, Jack sees some kids running around.]
Jack Bauer: Someone get these kids out of here.
Nina Myers: Station one, that's you.
Agent: Roger. Roger. I'm on it.
[Jack spots the man in the red baseball cap.]
Jack Bauer: Hold up. I think I got him.
[Jack acknowledges the briefcase of money he is holding. The man approaches Jack.]
Jack Bauer: Hey.
Morgan: Alexis?
Jack Bauer: Yeah.
Morgan: I told you inside the restaurant.
Jack Bauer: We're doing it out here.
Morgan: Why?
Jack Bauer: Because there's a cop inside the restaurant. Come on, let's get this over with.
Morgan: Fine. Where's the money?
Jack Bauer: First let's go over it again.
Morgan: Over what?
Jack Bauer: What you're supposed to do for me.
Morgan: At 7:20 tonight I'm gonna shut down the power on grid 26 double G. Five minutes later, it comes back up.
Jack Bauer: What else?
Morgan: What do you mean, “What else”? What happened to your accent? You're not Alexis.
[The man becomes suspicious of Jack and bolts.]
Jack Bauer: He's moving.
[Jack chases Morgan.]
Nina Myers: Station two, what do you see?
Teddy Hanlin: I got him. I can take him.
Jack Bauer: No! He's not a threat. I can get him. All teams, hold your fire. He's going for the east bridge. Just cover the exits.
Teddy Hanlin: I'm just gonna slow him down for you.
Jack Bauer: Don't shoot.
Teddy Hanlin: I'm gonna put him down.
Jack Bauer: No. I repeat, do not shoot. Nobody shoot.
Teddy Hanlin: Relax, Jack. I'll just wing him.
Jack Bauer: Do not shoot. Teddy, stand down!
[Even though Jack warned him not to shoot, Hanlin fires anyway. Morgan’s body crashes through a glass railing and falls to the ground.]
Jack Bauer: No!
Nina Myers: Stay back! Stay back!
Jack Bauer: Get me a medic down here now! Hanlin, you son of a bitch, I said don't shoot!
------------------------
[Palmer hands the tape over to someone.]
David Palmer: Take care of this.
------------------------
Nina Myers: Stay back! Suspect’s down. I repeat, suspect is down. I need EMTs at the east end of the plaza.
------------------------
[Jovan Myovic, who has murdered the CTU agent guarding the Bauer house, sees Dr. Parslow and Teri arrive.]
Phil Parslow: This is your house.
